George asks…

electric guitar?

I wanna start electric guitar , do I need to learn classic guitar first ?

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

No. Not unless you want to.

What is important is that you learn the way you want to learn.

Too many people will tell you that “this is the right way” or “that is the right way” – the fact is there is no right way. Just look at some of the great blues players – technique-wise they would be regarded as terrible these days, but they sound awesome.

If you feel the need to get yourself a teacher make sure you learn what you want to learn, don’t just become a clone of that person.

Music is all about individual expression not about following a list of rules.

Good luck.

Linda asks…

Electric guitar?

I really want to learn how to play the electric guitar. But I can’t find a teacher in my area. So how can I learn??

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

Go to a local music store and pick up a begginners book. It will teach you the basis of reading notes, tabs, rhythms, and chords. After you learn that see if theres a follow up book then get that.

After that you should have a decent understanding of the guitar. Next pick a couple of your favorite songs and go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ and type in a song u like and then find oone that says tabs or chords next to it. Learn to play a couple of your favorite songs.

And if you really want to get good at guitar, buy a program called guitar pro. Its like $60 buts its like having your own personal teacher. You can go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ and downloads songs for guitar pro. Guitar pro is a program that has the notes and tabs. It also usually has more than one guitar part in it too. One of the best things about guitar pro is you can play the song or any section of it if your having trouble. Which is really nice cuz you can see how its suppose to sound and you can play along with all the other instruments.

Once you reach the point where you can not get any better i suggest going to a local music store and seeing if they know where there are some guitar teachers.

Chris asks…

Electric Guitar?

Is playing the electric guitar hard? Do you need to learn how to play regular guitar in order to play electric? Plz and thank you!

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

Basic guitar is the same on electric/acoustic. You have to be aware that it will hurt your left hand fingertips for a while, and you cannot have long, pretty nails on your left hand. If you are just starting, it’s probably better to go for an acoustic at first 9or even an electro acoustic) until you are sure that it’s what you want to do and are happy with it. Then you can decide whether an electric is for you or not. Of course, it’s more expensive buying electric co you have to buy an amp as well. Hope this helps. There is a range of guitars called Daisy Rock designed for girls

Mandy asks…

ELectric Guitar? =(?

Ok, I only went to guitar lessons for a year, and was never taught the basics of electric guitar. I have a fender amp, and everyone keeps telling me just to experiment with it to get the right sound, but its frustrating because i have, and i like it distorted but it always seems like too much and i dont kow what all the knobs on my electric guitar are for, and i have an amp and its small and the only two diistortion buttons say crunch and lead. IM SO CONFUSED. then i watched this video to learn when i come around by green day, but it didnt sound anything like it when i played!! and can someone please explain what the tone nobs on my guitar are for, and whats a good position to turn them to. I am desperate, i cant find a website, and my own friend wont even help me =(

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

Firstly..

A small amp wont give out the best distortion sound so thats something you’ll just have to get used to.

Play a single chord over at different settings [set both knobs to the middle to begin with]

You were wise to choose Green Day to begin with, simple and easy to pick up.

If you have a friend who can teach you the basis of tab reading then go to…

very easy to read tabs. Search for any song.

..but you cant expect to sound exactly like them in 5 seconds .. Takes practise. Be patient and ask a friend nicely to help, im sure someone will :]

good luck

What is the difference between an electric guitar and a bass guitar?

What is the difference between an electric guitar and a bass guitar?
i heard that bass guitars can be electric too but they are different. How are they different. Are they in the same category despite being different? Whats the difference between an “electric guitar” and an “electric ‘base’ guitar“? Please explain, than you in advance.

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

Ok, well there are multiple differences. First off, an electric guitar has six strings (basically) and a bass has 4 unless more are added, but that’s for advance players. The bass guitar has a longer neck where as the guitar is short. The bass guitar strings are thicker and the notes are lower, you write the notes in the bass clef. On the guitar the notes are higher and notes are mainly written on the G clef (there are some that go below that onto the bass clef, but other then that you’d have to use a drop tuning like drop D or drop C.) The bass guitar is more of a rhythm giver where as the regular guitar is more of a lead instrument. Plus, the strings on a bass guitar are different than the strings on an electric guitar as far as notes are concerned. I hope that helps you out, I have this question once too!!!

Michael asks…

What electric guitar is good for beginners?

I want to learn to play the electric guitar, but I am not sure which one is good. I am looking for a good guitar for beginners that is $200 or less. I don’t want the walmart brand or anything like that. I’m thinking about the Squier Bullet that is $120, is that a good guitar?
Well, I want to play rock so I want a guitar that is good for that.
Is Dean Vendetta any good?

Guitar Sound Effects Team answers:

I would recomend a Squier by Fender Stratocaster it’s perfact for beginners. It’s not exspensive and it is great to learn on.
