VIOLIN GUITAR SOUND – A beautiful type of guitar sound, often called violin guitar sound, produced with combining long sustains and fast picking is found in bag of tricks of many famous guitar players. Truly, it is very effective, keeps the listeners attention and allows individual technical abilities and style of a player to show.
GUITAR TUTORIALS – In today’s world the internet provides much quicker access to guitar lessons than it used to be. Instead of paying a teacher for weekly lessons or going through countless books, you have the lessons online which enables you to choose your teacher and time when you will practice. However, one might easily get lost among thousands of tutorials offered online.
TWINSCREAMER – The first thing that crosses a guitar players mind when talking about a Fender amp and a Tubescreamer pedal is screaming blues ala Stevie Ray Vaughan. Still, many forget that there is a sea of sounds to explore using only basic guitar sound effects.
PINK FLOYD THE SEAGULL EFFECT – In a second part of the epic Pink Floyd song Echoes from their 1971 album Meddle there is an awkward psychedelic three minute part that creates a strange mood and reminds of a seagull flying above your head. This part lasts from around 11th minute until 15th minute of the song (the song itself lasts for 23 and a half minutes).
ADRIAN BELEW ELEPHANT TALK – Adrian Belew is another guitar sound wizard that is always exploring new sonic grounds and new guitar sound effects. Whether in other projects (David Bowie, Talking Heads, King Crimson,..) or projects of his own, he always uses an embarrassing amount of gear and is always keen to try new devices.
ON THE EDGE OF U2 – I can only recommend Fender Twin Reverb, Vox AC 30, Roland JC120. But other amps should work fine as well. The important thing is that you keep the settings on the amp as clean as possible. Therefor I am not posting any settings because they depend on the amp you are using (and you should know how to get your cleans).
SLEEP NOW IN A FIRE – Tom Morello is famous for his mixture of styles (blues based rock riffs, funk, heavy metal, punk, hip hop…) as well as an innovative use of guitar sound effects. His revolutionary guitar playing comes from the whole new approach to it. Besides classical playing (strums, riffs and solos) he makes music of scratches, beats, noises, feedbacks etc.
DAVID BOWIE SOUND – I must admit I had some hard time with this one. There are two guitars recorded on this song that are played differently rhythm-wise. The sound of each guitar is different as well but pretty simple for both of them (different EQ settings). And it is possible to make this song sound good with just one guitar if you strum it in the way that covers both rhythm guitars
Stevie Ray Vaughan Sound – It is a well known fact that the easiest way to acquire that thick, juicy, sought after sound of great Stevie Ray Vaughan (besides heavy finger work and a strong right hand technique) is by using an old Fender Stratocaster (1959 preferably) with vintage type pickups ( Fender Fat 50s or Tex Mex), Fender Vibroverb amp and a Tubescreamer pedal. However there are other ways of using your guitar sound effects and your gear to get similar sound.
MESSING WITH A GUITAR SOUND – This is an audio clip of me jamming with my band in our rehearsal place. It is kind of seventies rock jam. This is not here to showcase my playing, musical ideas or my band and our musical style (we play many styles not just this one). So don’t get judgmental on mistakes, quality of the recording etc. This clip is here just to show you one of the sounds I enjoy using and how I got it with my guitar sound effects.
PINK FLOYD SOUND – The phaser I use is BOSS PH 3 pedal. It is a little different than other phaser pedals. It is probably not the best phaser pedal out there if you are after that vintage sound. It cant compare to Mutron and it is very different than MXR Phase 90 (the one I belive Gilmour used on this song) or Electro-Harmonix Small Stone. But it is very versatile and provides variety of sounds which is the reason I like it.
